ICCO DELEGATION PAYS A WORKING VISIT TO THE GHANA COMMODITY EXCHANGE AS PART OF THE AFRICAN COCOA EXCHANGE PROJECT image


In a significant step toward enhancing the African Cocoa Exchange project, a delegation from the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) visited the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX) on Thursday, June 22, 2023. The delegation included the Executive Director of ICCO, expert consultants, and delegates participating in the ICCO workshop on the African Cocoa Exchanges project.

 

The visit was marked by a warm welcome from Mrs. Tucci Ivowi, CEO of GCX, who highlighted the pivotal role of the Ghana Commodity Exchange in the nation's efforts to modernize the agricultural sector. Mrs. Ivowi stated that the Exchange, inaugurated with the endorsement of the President, plays a vital role in advancing the government's objectives of enhancing food security, generating employment opportunities, and alleviating poverty.

Dr. Harold Okai-Tettey, the Head of Technology and Information System, provided an in-depth explanation of how GCX conducts its trading activities through its online platform, underscoring the organization's tech-driven approach to modernizing commodity trading.

GCX expressed its satisfaction in sharing its experiences with the ICCO delegation and expressed a keen interest in future collaborative endeavors that could further enhance the commodity exchange ecosystem. It was emphasized that the successful functioning of a commodity exchange heavily relies on the active involvement and support of all key stakeholders within the value chain.

 

The visit was a very productive visit and sort to help in contributing to the African Cocoa Exchange project.
